We set out to scout office spots, but hunger hijacked our plans.

Initially, Geneo was our first thought, but after weaving past Singapore Design Week 2025 sculptures and arriving at the massive wooden “supertrees,” the lunch crowd convinced us to retreat :'(

Then... just about a 10-minute walk away, we stumbled upon something more unexpected: a research-driven food space, Asian Twist by 365 Food, situated in Ascent. We haven't heard of this place before, but R&D food screams "Innovation", and as Unique Finds scouts, that’s exactly the kind of discovery that we can't resist.

Asian Twist is the brainchild of Eugene and Kenneth, two UK grads who left their corporate paths and then holed themselves away in a self-styled “R&D Kitchen” for almost two years, and emerged with the culinary Eureka that is Asian Twist.

The eatery itself is massive by Singapore standards, divided into three to four spacious compartments plus an airy outdoor dining area. In a city where space is always tight, this felt like a real luxury O.O

And then there’s the menu, which is an extension of their R&D quirkiness. Think cheeky names like Netfish and Chill, Cluck Norris, Cheek-Ko-Pek, and Moby Duck... each dish a wink to pop culture while staying true to their philosophy of reimagining Asian food into healthier, everyday-friendly plates. Everything is conceptualised in-house, free from MSG and preservatives.

We realised quickly that this place had both space and substance. The seating was comfortable and the prices were kinder than we expected for how rich and generous the dishes turned out to be. Well, let’s dive right into it.

I was instantly drawn to JIN “骨” BANG ($13.90), a 48-hour pork rib collagen pepper soup. Crazy value for a slow-simmered broth that’s boiled for hours to get rich, velvety collagen. And honestly, collagen is always a good idea.

The first sip floored me. “Velvety” was the perfect word. There was a faint bak kut teh note, but with the deep richness of pork collagen soup. Together, it worked perfectly. I could have easily ordered two more bowls and devoured them all. Paired with their fluffy rice and bonito flakes, this shot straight into my “favourite lunches” list. Yes, I’d go back just for this.

Tricia went with ONE NIGHT SHABU ($13.90): pork shabu shabu and seasonal veggies in a broth made from fish bones and seaweed. It reminded us of ABC soup, sweet and comforting, a homely foil to the collagen bomb I was sipping beside her.

Meanwhile, Gwen picked the cheekily named Netfish and Chill ($12.90). Think salmon, onsen egg, vegetables and an assortment of sauces. Sounds deceptively simple, but it turned out to be the opposite of simple! The salmon perfectly cooked, the sauces layered and clever, the flavours surprisingly robust.

To top it all off, we shared the Cheese Burger Spring Roll, 4 pcs ($12.90). Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like... a cheeseburger stuffed into the crisp shell of a spring roll. Weird but wonderful. Like a flavour bomb in a thin, crispy wrap. It deserved all the brownie points for being such a unique dish.

After the meal, we couldn’t stop raving about the quality, the creativity, the price. All in, the value was hard to beat. What a treat. We’ll definitely be back for more!
