Overbrod Singapore: A Scandinavian odyssey just across from IKEA Alexandra

IKEA has always been our little portal to Sweden. A taste of the faraway, Nordic world tucked neatly into Singapore’s compact chaos.
[Almost] every visit leaves me daydreaming about actually being there: wandering through their magical forests, living off herrings and salmon, soaking in that Hygge life we keep hearing about.
So imagine my delight when I found a place that brings that whole mood right to Anchorpoint.

Overbrod Singapore is a deli-style café that feels like a quiet Scandinavian postcard. Clean lines, raw wood, a hint of perpetual Christmas (they even sprinkle fir leaves in the food!). It’s right opposite IKEA Alexandra, ready to scratch that Swedish itch with honest Scandinavian flavours.

Their menu reads like a love letter to the region (and very alien to me, really). Here's a glimpse: Finnbiff (Norwegian reindeer stew), Laxpudding (Swedish fish pudding), Fisksoppa (Swedish fish stew), and of course, Smørrebrød, which are Danish and Norwegian open-faced sandwiches on buttered rye.
I went for the “Build Your Own Lunch Set” ($25), choosing the dill-pickled herring smorrebrod with senapssås, green apples, Spanish onions, bacon, and sour cream on house-made rye, paired with elderflower soda and soup of the day.

Every bite was layered with care: sprinkled with garnishes and toppings I wasn’t entirely sure about. The pickled herring didn’t taste overly sour or strong; it actually blended beautifully with the rest of the ingredients. Deceptively simple, but far from it once you dig in.
The taste? Delicious, refreshing, and unlike anything I’ve had in Singapore... a mix that feels a little bit IKEA, and a little bit beyond. I genuinely enjoyed myself, and made a promise to be back for dinner another day.
If you’re craving that IKEA-but-beyond moment, like me, Overbrod is a genuine slice of Scandinavia minus the flatpack furniture XD
