All You Can Shuck Oyster Buffet at The Oyster Cart Singapore

My left armpit area, the part where you strain too hard when forcing a jar open, aches.
We had shucked 34 oysters yesterday at the shuck-all-you-can oyster buffet, and I’m feeling the after effects of my amateur techniques for the first hour.
It took me a while to warm up to the correct technique, but once I did, I found myself peeling oysters open fairly quickly. It was so much fun, for both my limbs and my tummy.

Tucked away in Opal Crescent is a restaurant with two oyster carts sitting outside the restaurant, a clear sign you're in the right place.
We attended the 12pm oyster shucking session. The session only begins when everyone arrives, so we reached at 12.15pm and realised they had been waiting for us. Just something to note, since it would still wrap up at 1.30pm.
It looked like a full-house session that day. People were already seated and settling in, some chatting, some eyeing the oysters in front of them. The gloves we were given were sprayed with antibacterial solution, and a black bucket sat atop each table, ready for shells to pile up.
Adam kicked things off with a brief introduction to the two methods of oyster shucking, one at the hinge, and the other at the shell opening.
As we got to work, he shared stories of his oyster adventures and humble beginnings, which made the whole experience feel a lot more immersive.

We heard from Adam that there had been participants who gave up after trying to pry open just two oysters. That shall not be me, I thought, although there was a moment when I felt exactly that way.
Turns out technique in oyster shucking is everything. Experienced shuckers can go through dozens of oysters in an hour.
Now, to the oysters. These were from Ireland and France. They were very fresh, the inside was clear and almost glassy, and overall just really good. I’ve honestly not seen cleaner-looking ones.
For those wondering if it gets boring, it doesn’t.
It’s genuinely fun, and you can easily turn it into a mini competition between you and your friend if you want. Between the laughs, the slight struggle, and all the oyster slurping, it made for a really good time. I’d recommend coming in a pair.
Special shoutout to the assistant, M, who was constantly moving around the space, serving up oysters and refilling water.
